How To Measure Blind

Updated: Sep 14, 2021

Looking for simple blinds for your own space but questioning how to provide us the accurate measurement ensures great-fitting custom window treatments? No worries. We are here to guide you on how to do a proper blind measurement with just a few simple steps. Here's how to get accurate measurements

1. Determine the Type of Treatment Installation

There are two types of blind installation: (1) Overlapping Mounted and (2) Recess In Mounted. Henceforth, the very first step is to understand which type of treatment installation.

  • Casing Depth : If the casing depth is less than 2 inches, outside overlapping mounted is recommended.

  • Squareness : Measure the window casing diagonally in two places. If the two diagonal dimensions are not equal, we recommend an outside mount application for optimal function and aesthetics.

2. Measure the Width of the Window

  • Blind Inside Mount (Recess In)

Measure width at the top, middle and bottom of the window. Write down the narrowest measurement (round down to an even 1/8").

  • Blind Outside Mount (Overlapping)

Measure to the outside edges of the molding, then add 4" to 6" to ensure light control and privacy.

3. Measure the Height of the Window

  • Blind Inside Mount (Recess In)

Measure the height at left, middle and right of the window. Write down the longest measurement (round down to an even 1/8")

  • Blind Outside Mound (Overlapping)

Measure the exact height of the window from top edge of molding to bottom edge or to top of sill if there is one. You may adjust the length to your preference.
